ETEC 676D- Coding in Education
Coding in the classroom is a skill that all educators should possess and expose their students. Through this course I had the opportunity of becoming more proficient in block coding through Scratch. There were several programs (projects) that had to be created in order to practice and become more confident with block coding. As this skill was developed our team also examined a problem that could be tackled with a coding project. Students in both third and fifth grade struggle with acquiring and maintain fluency of multiplication facts, which made this the objective of the project. Multiplication facts quizzes were coded and remixed to create division facts quizzes. These quizzes were coded to have different characters and backgrounds, which allowed students to customize the learning environment into something that was appealing for them. The quizzes were timed and kept track of the number of facts answered correctly. The website was created to give the students quick access to the quizzes for independent practice.
